Privacy Policy

Effective September 23, 2026

DishBudget is a recipe planner that prices meals at your Kroger-family store. We collect only what it takes to run your account and show those prices, and we don't sell your personal information. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

Who we are

DishBudget is operated by Adam Carrillo (“DishBudget,” “we,” “us”). If you have questions about this policy or your data, email adamcarrillo@gmail.com.

What we collect

Account information. When you create an account, our sign-in provider, Clerk, collects your email address and, if you give them, your name and profile photo. If you sign in with a third-party account such as Google, Clerk receives the basic profile information that provider shares. We never see or store your password.

What you save in DishBudget. We store the following with your account:

  • Recipes you favorite
  • Pantry staples you tell us you keep on hand
  • Recipes you add to your meal plan, their servings, and when you mark them cooked
  • Recipes you log as cooked
  • Reviews you write: your rating, your comments, and the price you paid, if you enter one

Your store and location. To find stores near you, you enter a ZIP code or let your browser share your location. We send that ZIP code or those coordinates to Kroger's store-locator API to find nearby stores. We don't store your coordinates. We remember the store you pick (its ID, name, and banner) in your browser, not on our servers.

Technical information. Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically receives basic request information, such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you request. It uses this information to deliver the site, keep it secure, and diagnose problems.

How we use it

  • To run your account and keep you signed in
  • To show prices, stock, and products from the store you picked
  • To save your favorites, pantry, meal plan, and cooking history so they're there the next time you visit
  • To show your reviews on recipe pages
  • To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems
  • To reply when you contact us

We don't sell or rent your personal information.

What other people can see

Reviews are public. When you post a review, anyone visiting that recipe page sees your rating, your comments, the price you paid (if you entered one), and your first name and last initial (for example, “Sam R.”). Everything else you save, including favorites, pantry, meal plan, and cooking history, is private to your account.

Companies we work with

We use a small number of service providers. Each one receives only the data it needs to do its job for us:

  • Clerk handles sign-up, sign-in, and account management.
  • Vercel hosts the website and processes each request.
  • Neon, through Vercel, hosts the database that stores your saved data.
  • Kroger provides store locations and product and price data. Kroger receives the ZIP code or coordinates you search with and the ID of the store you picked. It does not receive your name, email, or account details from us.

When you click a product link, you go to your store's website (for example, kroger.com or frysfood.com). From that point, the store's own privacy policy applies. We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect people's safety or our rights, or as part of a merger or sale of the service. If the service changes hands, this policy will continue to apply to your information.

Cookies and browser storage

Right now we use only the cookies and storage the site needs to work:

  • Sign-in cookies set by Clerk to keep you signed in and to protect your account.
  • A store cookie (cc_store) that remembers the store you picked, so pages can load with its prices. It expires after 90 days.
  • Local storage in your browser for your light or dark theme, your selected store, and the steps and shopping-list items you've ticked off. This data stays on your device. We don't collect it.

If you block or clear these, you may need to sign in again or pick your store again.

Advertising

DishBudget doesn't show ads today, but we may add advertising in the future to keep the service free. Before we do, we'll update this policy to say which advertising partners we work with, what information and cookies they use, and how you can opt out.

How long we keep it

We keep your saved data for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, we delete your favorites, pantry, meal plan, and cooking history. Your reviews are deleted too, unless you ask us to keep them without your name attached. Our providers may keep backups and logs for a limited time after that, as described in their own policies.

Your choices and rights

  • You can edit or remove favorites, pantry items, meal plan entries, and your reviews at any time.
  • You can update your name, email, and photo in your account settings.
  • You can ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion of your account by emailing adamcarrillo@gmail.com.

Depending on where you live, including California and other US states with privacy laws, you may have more rights. These can include the right to know what we've collected, to delete it, to correct it, and not to be treated differently for using these rights. We honor these requests for every user, wherever they live. We will verify your identity before we act on a request. We don't currently sell or “share” personal information as those terms are defined under California law.

Security

We encrypt data in transit using HTTPS. Access to our systems is limited to what's needed to run the service. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information. If we learn of a breach that affects you, we will notify you as the law requires.

Children

DishBudget isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above. If the changes are significant, we will tell you on the site or by email before they take effect.
